1. Chelcie Clayton1 Champion (#15538) was born in Shelby Co., Al 21 Jan 1886. Chelcie died 2 Apr 1972 in Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al, at 86 years of age. His body was interred in Union Hills Fbc Cem., Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al.

He married Hattie Lottie Isbell. (Hattie Lottie Isbell is #15537.) Hattie was born in Shelby Co., Al 29 Aug 1891. Hattie was the daughter of Godfrey 'Bud' Daniel Beauregard Isbell and Nancy Elizabeth 'Nan' Brasher. Hattie died 8 Sep 1970 in Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al, at 79 years of age. Her body was interred in Union Hills Fbc Cem., Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al. At 17 years of age Hattie became the mother of Odessa Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 21 May 1909. At 19 years of age Hattie became the mother of Morris Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 8 Feb 1911. At 21 years of age Hattie became the mother of M. B. Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 29 Dec 1912. At 23 years of age Hattie became the mother of Enna Nancy Champion in Bear Creek, Shelby Co., Al, 5 Dec 1914. At 25 years of age Hattie became the mother of Jewel Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 17 Jun 1917. At 28 years of age Hattie became the mother of Columbus 'Clayton' Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 19 Aug 1920. At 30 years of age Hattie became the mother of G. C. Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 26 Apr 1922. At 33 years of age Hattie became the mother of Dorothy Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 26 Mar 1925. At 37 years of age Hattie became the mother of Raymond Henry Ford Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 15 Apr 1929.

At 23 years of age Chelcie became the father of Odessa Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 21 May 1909. At 25 years of age Chelcie became the father of Morris Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 8 Feb 1911. At 26 years of age Chelcie became the father of M. B. Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 29 Dec 1912. At 28 years of age Chelcie became the father of Enna Nancy Champion in Bear Creek, Shelby Co., Al, 5 Dec 1914. At 31 years of age Chelcie became the father of Jewel Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 17 Jun 1917. At 34 years of age Chelcie became the father of Columbus 'Clayton' Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 19 Aug 1920. At 36 years of age Chelcie became the father of G. C. Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 26 Apr 1922. At 39 years of age Chelcie became the father of Dorothy Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 26 Mar 1925. At 43 years of age Chelcie became the father of Raymond Henry Ford Champion in Shelby Co., Al, 15 Apr 1929. Chelsea was the son of Zachary Taylor Champion (22 Feb 1847 - 1 Dec 1915) and Mary McGinnis (24 Oct 1862 - 12 May 1926). Enna said that Zacharary and his brothers came from across the water. She said Mary was absent minded, but the sweetes t thing. Zachary and Mary are buried at the Missionary Baptist Church at Vandiver. All the rest of the family were Freewill Baptists and are buried at Union Hills. Enna has big pictures of both sets of her grandparents hanging on her wall. Sh e also has her parents Bible and her Champion grandparents Bible. Birth and death dates taken from tombstone. Enna said Chelcie made his living "by public works," that is working at the headen mill at Westover, which made heads or tops for barrels. He also worked some at the sawmill. She said that Hatti e and the children worked the fields and Chelcie kept them out of debt. Enna laughingly said they raised anything that had roots, then said they raised corn, cotton, sorghum, velvet leaves, sweet and Irish potatoes. One year they had fifteen acr es in sorghum cane and a hard wind blew it all down. She waid they had a time untangling and stripping it. They lived at Sterrett, Bear Creek and Vandiver. Chelcie didn't buy his own farm til he was up in years after all the children had marrie d. The Record of Birth for their sixth child, a boy not named, gives Chelcie's name as Hutsey Champion of Vandiver, age 35, farmer. The child's birth was given as Aug. 19th, 1921 (year should be 1920), but was recorded on July 21st, 1921. Th e attending physician was J. B. Ware of Vandiver and was evidently quite late filing the records. Hattie was listed as a housewife, age 27. Chelsea died at Enna's house which was across the street from his.

child 3 ii. Morris Champion (#15544) was born in Shelby Co., Al 8 Feb 1911. Morris died 5 Jun 1911 in Shelby Co., Al, at less than one year of age. His body was interred in Union Hills Fbc Cem., Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al. Birth and death dates from tombstone.

child 4 iii. M. B. Champion (#15545) was born in Shelby Co., Al 29 Dec 1912. M. died 17 Mar 1913 in Shelby Co., Al, at less than one year of age. Her body was interred in Union Hills Fbc Cem., Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al. Birth and death dates from tombstone.

child 5 iv. Enna Nancy Champion (#15546) was born in Bear Creek, Shelby Co., Al 5 Dec 1914. Her body was interred in Union Hills Fbc Cem., Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al. She married Bert Davis in Sterrett, Shelby Co., Al, 30 Mar 1934. (Bert Davis is #15547.) Bert was born 26 May 1906. Bert died 28 Dec 1976 in Alabaster, Shelby Co., Al, at 70 years of age. His body was interred in Union Hills Fbc Cem., Vandiver, Shelby Co., Al. At 36 years of age Bert became the father of Imol 'Lane' Davis in Pell City, St. Clair Co., Al, 17 Apr 1943. Enna was married the second time to Clifford White for fifteen years. They are separated. I talked to Enna on the phone 16 Oct 1993. She gave me a lot of help with GDB's grandchildren's names. Talked to Enna again 8 April 1997. She has a heart problem and arthritis. She is a Freewill Baptist. Her tombstone is located in this cemetery. Death date not inscribed.
