MALCOLM Family

First Generation

1. William H.1 Malcolm (#23456) was born in Mo Oct 1842.

He married Mary Ellen Birdwell in Travis, Tx, 16 Jan 1879. (Mary Ellen Birdwell is #23455.) Mary was born in Il 1865. Mary was the daughter of John H. Birdwell and Oliva Elizabeth Harper. At 15 years of age Mary became the mother of Minnie B. Malcolm in Tx, 1880. At 17 years of age Mary became the mother of Lee A. Malcolm in Tx, 1882. At 19 years of age Mary became the mother of William Malcolm in Tx, 1884. At 24 years of age Mary became the mother of Lillie E. Malcolm in Tx, 1889. At 30 years of age Mary became the mother of Lowell Malcolm in Tx, 1895. At 33 years of age Mary became the mother of Ollie M. Malcolm in Tx, 1898.

At 37 years of age William became the father of Minnie B. Malcolm in Tx, 1880. At 39 years of age William became the father of Lee A. Malcolm in Tx, 1882. At 41 years of age William became the father of William Malcolm in Tx, 1884. At 46 years of age William became the father of Lillie E. Malcolm in Tx, 1889. At 52 years of age William became the father of Lowell Malcolm in Tx, 1895. At 55 years of age William became the father of Ollie M. Malcolm in Tx, 1898. From Betty BIRDWELL: "W. H. MALCOLM married a Mary BIRDWELL in Travis Co, TX, on 16 JAN, 1879. W. H. MALCOLM, age 49, of Santa Anna, Coleman Co, TX, signed John H. Birdwell's pension application (no date on application) and said he hadknown him since 1878. (NOTE: W. H. MALCOLM also signed a notarized statement on15 SEP 1900, swearing that John H. had been disabled in 1892. W. H. MALCOLMalso signed another notarized statement on 6 JAN 1902 saying he had known JohnH. for 23 years.)" [If the statement at age 49 was around 1900 or 1902, that would give W. H. a birth year of around 1850.] In the 1900 Coleman Co, TX census a Robert Purnal BIRDWELL (the son of John H) was listed in the household of Wm H. MALCOLM as a brother-in-law. Purnal had a sister,Mary, born ca 1865 in IL. I do not know anything else about her. She wasprobably about 14-15 yrs old in 1879." Betty goes on to talk about another WilliamH. "Bill" MALCOLM who married another Mary BIRDWELL, daughter of Robert Lee BIRDWELL and Lydia ESSARY. Betty and I both think that this younger W. H.is probably the son of the older W. H. My grandmother, Lottie V. BIRDWELLOLIVER, also a daughter of Robert Lee BIRDWELL, said that her sister Mary marrieda "distant" cousin but refused to comment on how distant. If Bill is theson of the older W. H., then he married his first cousin once removed.
